Biography of Dan Savage

The sex specialist was born Daniel Keenan Savage, the third of four children to Judith (née Schneider) and William Savage Sr., on October 7, 1964 in Chicago, Illinois. He is of German and Irish descent and was raised as a Catholic.

Because of his family’s close ties to Catholicism, his parents enrolled him in Quigley Preparatory Seminary North, an all-boys school for future priests. Dan Savage didn’t move forward to fulfill his family’s dreams, so he studied acting at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

After graduating, Savage moved to West Berlin where he lived for two years before returning to the United States in 1990. In 1991, he took a job as a video store manager in Madison, Wisconsin, where he met Tim Keck, co-founder of the international satirical press company The Onion. After a conversation between the two, Savage suggested Keck publish an advice column in his Seattle-based newspaper, “The Stranger,” which needed to be created because, according to him, people always need advice. To his surprise, Keck asked him to produce a sample column, and in doing so, he was offered the job.

This launched Dan Savage’s career as a sex counselor columnist, which in 1994 included a three-hour phone show on the KCMU Seattle radio station. In 1998, after leaving his radio show, ABC News hired him to write a column for their website.

Meanwhile, Dan Savage made sure to stay in touch with his roots. Under the pseudonym of Keenan Hollohan, he works as a theater director and founded the Seattle Greek Active Theatre.

Is he gay?

Dan Savage is gay and very proud of himself. The outspoken sex advice columnist came out as gay in 1979, at a time when gay people were subjected to verbal, emotional and even physical abuse. He has since become an activist in the LGBTQ community, advocating for gay rights like same-sex marriage and also providing a platform to protect young gay men from suicide due to the abuse they experience from their peers.

Who is her husband (Terry Miller) and son?

Not everyone in the world will have the chance to meet their soul mate and even if they do, one reason or another may cause them to never be together. However, the same cannot be said for Dan Savage, who seems to have found the only person in the world who would give him the opportunity to be the best he can be.

He is married to model Terry Miller who has publicly stated that the reason for his career was because Miller was a partner who stayed at home and took good care of himself. Due to the absence of same-sex marriage provisions in the United States in 2005, the couple first exchanged vows in Vancouver, British Columbia (Canada), before doing so again in Washington State in 2012, after its legalization. They were among the first 11 couples the state issued marriage licenses on Dec. 9, 2012, at Seattle City Hall.

Savage and Miller went on to gain a huge social media following and were described as a gay power couple. Together they adopted a son named DJ who is believed to have been born in 1998. Not much is known about their son, who is now a teenager, unlike his parents, he is straight and was spotted with an unidentified woman.
